2009 is our 6th year of dedicated bicycle restorations. This is my full time venture and we are committed to providing the best powdercoating available specifically for the bicycle enthusiast.
We are constantly upgrading equipment and seeking better materials that provide show quality finishes for frames and parts. Being dedicated to bicycles allows us to have equipment calibrated to provide smoother finishes and more even coverage then the average shop can achieve for these jobs. We have racks and fixtures designed for us to powdercoat many small parts that can’t reasonably be done elsewhere. We can powdercoat successfully any metal part on most bikes with the exception of the chain. Some examples of parts we commonly do are, spokes / nipples, pedals, headsets, bottom brackets, clamps, pedal cages and bodies, hubs, and even chain ring bolts.
We have many custom made factory colors including almost all Hutch, Haro, Redline, and several other vintage BMX companies. We now have Diamond Back Turbo Black chrome, and are constantly adding to the list.
Repairs on most frames can be done by us in house. We have tooling to do major tube replacement, fix cracks, fill holes, and repair or replace dropouts for both chromoly and aluminum frames. We can replace some fork steerers, and straighten some frames. We commonly replace cable guides and stock some factory versions. Dents are handled in many ways. We can sand, weld, braze or use high temp fillers, the method used depends on the size and severity, as well as the powder or plating that will cover it. We typically only offer these services in preparation for powdercoating done by us. If you need repairs as a stand alone service, contact me in advance.
C4Labs does not do chrome plating, but we do have several reliable sources we use to provide the service as part of the restoration process. We can not guarantee all chrome work that we have done, but we rarely have issues with any of the work. We have taken great measures to find the best platers for bicycle specific jobs, knowing the value of the parts we send out. We make sure they maintain all stampings and features that are important to the value of the parts the same way we do when we powdercoat. The time frame for plated parts is usually 4-8 weeks and the cost can vary depending on the type of job needed. Contact me for info on this service.
We offer wheel building for any components we refinish (spokes, hubs, hoops, nips). Our expertise is vintage BMX components like Z-rims, chrome plated rims, and many soft material hubs or special pattern hubs like SST. I’ve been building these wheels since the 70’s and understand the major differences from most modern wheel sets. I take great care in lacing these types of wheels only to tensions they can safely withstand. I can order most size spokes and stock the common ones. We can color the spokes and nips in any combination and even offer fades.
We now offer custom hand painted pin striping and are fortunate to have a nationally recognized pinstriper local to us. He has been doing work for Streetrods and motorcycles for several decades and his work is featured in many magazines and even a few TV shows. We have had many bicycle frames done with great results and will soon be featuring some of them in our gallery.
We stock decals for all Haro Freestylers from ‘82-’88, and offer them installed on frames we refinish. We have sources for many other vintage BMX manufactures’ and are working to find a source for custom decals. Contact me and I’ll do the best I can to help you find decals for frames we restore.
Special Projects such as Pit or Cruiser conversions are services we can personally provide, but only as our schedule will allow. Feel free to contact me with your requests and I’ll either help you or send you to someone who can. I have been creating quite a few pit frames lately and have developed techniques that allow a really clean job.
We do not offer anodizing at this time
I’ve made quite a few friends while providing these services. I want to thank all of you who have trusted us to do your work in the past. I have enjoyed working with you all and hope to continue to work personally with new customers on projects. I still promise to put my best into every project we receive, and do everything I can to keep the experience enjoyable for you.
